"You have multiplied , O Lord my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told."
- Psalm 40:5
Amen! The wondrous deeds of the Lord are more than can be told, but there is one that I want to tell of tonight.
Last month the kids from Casa Hogar Douglas (CHD) took a trip to a small village about an hour outside of Monterrey. This village is much like the squatter villages that we work in, with people living in complete poverty.
Quick interjection/foreshadow: How amazing is it that the Heavenly Father can bring beauty out of pain and poverty?
Back to the story: So the children from CHD- the children who have been abandoned by their parents and have nothing by the standards of the world- each took one of their Christmas presents to give to the children in the village. Can we just take a moment and let that sink in? The kids from the children's home- who have nothing- gave of the little that they do have to kids who have even less than they do.
That has to be one of the most beautiful examples of generosity that I have even heard.
I cannot stop thinking about the lyrics to "Our God" by Chris Tomlin-
Into the darkness you shine,
Out of the ashes you rise.
Where there is darkness, ashes, poverty, pain, neglect, and abandonment, the Lord can bring healing and make something beautiful. Praise his holy name!
